Frosty Morning in Yosemite

Yosemite National Park, renowned for its grandeur, transforms into a winter wonderland on frost-kissed mornings. Venturing into the meadows as the sun delicately paints the landscape, I found myself immersed in a world where frost transforms every blade of grass and pine needle into a crystalline masterpiece.

As dawn breaks, the meadows of Yosemite come alive with a delicate layer of frost, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. The air is crisp, and the quietude is only interrupted by the soft crunch of frost beneath my boots. The world seems to hold its breath in anticipation of the sun's warm touch.

The frosty meadows offer a unique canvas for photographers. The play of light and shadow is accentuated, creating a contrast that adds depth to every photograph. The meandering streams, partially frozen, add a touch of tranquility to the scene, while the distant granite peaks stand as silent sentinels against the cold morning sky.

I thought this would be the perfect collection of images to share as we move into the final month of the year and the weather turns colder. Make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!

The Windmills of Oia

Another classic part of Oia’s landscape are its white windmills. They are actually part of a villa which can be privately hired. I presume that the residents unfortunately miss out on the very best sunset view in Santorini - that of the windmills themselves, from a nearby hill!

As we were there in the (pre-pandemic) summer, there were countless other tourists around, and with this being a coveted spot, we arrived at the lookout and set up our tripods about 3 hours before sunset to guarantee the best views. It was worth it, as about an hour later, hundreds of other people started trickling in, many with their own large tripods and cameras that they set up alongside us. So if you ever want to capture this iconic view, make sure you plan ahead and arrive early.

A Lake Tekapo Sunset

Lake Tekapo and its quaint Church of the Good Shepherd is one of my absolute favourite locations in New Zealand. I have visited a few times in the past, capturing a stunning purple sunset and a snowy morning in the area, but something about this place keeps calling me back. Below are some images of my latest visit, where I enjoyed a serene golden hour by the lake.

Blue Pools Track

The Blue Pools Track is a short walk near Wanaka, in the South Island of New Zealand. The track goes through a few bridges over translucent blue waters. This was a great place to sit and relax by the water, enjoying the surrounding nature. I can’t recommend this short walk enough, particularly early in the morning before too many people arrive. Below are just a few of my favourite images from my visit to this location.

Sunset in Belém

Following my visit of the Tower of Belém, I stayed behind and waited for the sunset. As most tourists disappeared into the nearby restaurants, a golden light surrounded the tower and coloured the sky yellow. Soon after, a full moon had risen just behind the tower. I just wish I had had a longer focal lens with me to make the most of the moonrise at blue hour! Even so, I’m happy with several of my images from that evening, and I hope you enjoy this selection too.
